Tiffinys Girl gains deserved success at Cork

Liam Burke was back among the winners on the racecourse for the first time in just under two years, when he sent out Tiffiny’s Girl to make a breakthrough victory in the Rathbarry & Glenview Studs Mares’ Maiden Hunters’ Chase at Cork on Easter Monday.

One of just four runners in the three-mile contest following the defection of Sworn Duty and the high-profile The Great Unknown, Tiffiny’s Girl was sent off as a 100/30 shot, and Johnny Barry was content to take a lead off Rebel Treaty throughout.

Once the Conna rider asked the six-year-old to launch her challenge early in the home straight, she swiftly put the race to bed by quickening smartly over the final two fences to defeat the aforementioned Rebel Treaty by 12 lengths.

The odds-on favourite Lucy Wang trailed in a further three lengths adrift in third having been unable to back-up her recent GAIN Series Final victory.

Owned and bred by Esther Dinneen, Tiffiny’s Girl had been forced to settle for place honours in four consecutive races between the flags this season, but her deserved victory was a first on the racecourse for Burke since Johnny Clarke won at Wexford in July 2024.

“She jumped and travelled great the whole way,” Barry said. “She has been unlucky to be second three days in a row; she has just bumped into a couple of ones, but today’s ground, the nicer ground, she appreciated it, and she won nicely.

“Liam had her spot on for the day, and the owners bred her, so hopefully it will be the first of many for them.

“I got a lovely tow into the race, we went a nice, even gallop. She quickened up nicely from the back of the second-last fence. 

“When she gets over a fence, she pricks her ears and is already looking for the next fence. She jumps brilliantly.”
