Final day success clinches Breeder title for Ken Parkhill

The 2019 Champion Breeder Title was another award that went right down to the wire this season with Ken Parkhill securing victory on the final day of racing at Ballingarry.

Cormac Doyle's Begoodtoyourself ran out a winner of the four-year-old geldings' maiden on the June Bank Holiday Monday at Ballingarry to give breeder Ken Parkhill his fourth individual winner of the season and his first Champion Breeder title.

That result was enough to knock long-time leader John Duggan off of top spot, Duggan as he had bred three horses that went on to win during the season. which included the 2019 Champion Mare and joint-Champion Pointer Longhouse Music.

Parkhill also bred the impressive four-year-old debut winner Ferny Hollow. Handled by Donnchadh Doyle, this son of Westerner ran out a 20-length winner at Knockanard under James Walsh before selling to Willie Mullins and Harold Kirk for £300,000.

Power Of Pause was another debut winner bred by Parkhill, as that chestnut son of Doyen secured a six-length victory at Punchestown for Paddy Turley and Mark O'Hare. Willie Mullins and Harold Kirk also purchased this gelding, this time paying £180,000.

Parkhill's final individual winner, The Echo Boy, recorded two successes this season, winning at Loughanmore and Kirkistown in the autumn for Dermot McLoughlin. The €15,000 store, owned by Fidelma Toole, placed second once this year before getting off the mark with a 10-length victory.

Third place in the Breeders Championship went to Michael Long with four winners from three individual horses for the year.
