UK Point-to-Point Round Up 15th December

Over the weekend there were two point fixtures held in the UK and former Irish point-to-pointers took centre stage. Irish point graduates racked up an impressive eight wins out of the 15 races that took place across the two cards on Sunday. We take a closer look at some of the former Irish pointers who recorded wins below.

Barbury Racecourse, Wiltshire

It was a worthwhile trip across the water for handler Cormac Doyle as his charge One True King came out on top in the open maiden for four-and-five-year-olds at the Barbury International point-to-point. The son of Getaway secured victory by four-and-a-half lengths to get off the mark at the fifth time of asking.

The Dellercheckout, a former Cormac Doyle inmate, who was last seen in Ireland in March 2017 when winning his maiden at Lismore, made his debut performance in UK point-to-points a winning one at Barbury in the mixed open for his handler Caroline Robinson when coming home one-length in front of his rivals.

Former Irish point-to-point graduates enjoyed another success on the Barbury card when Call Me Vic took the novice rider conditions race. The success marked the son of Old Vic’s third success in UK points. The 12-year-old won his point-to-point in Dromahane back in 2012 for handler Adrian Maguire.

The open maiden six-year-old and upwards went to the Irish point graduate Family Man for handler Ryan Potter. The son of Goldwell vindicated the promise of his third placed effort at Dunsmore when scoring on the line by two-lengths. The six-year-old placed twice in Irish points for handler Donal Hassett in 2018.

Alnwick, Northumberland

The Jessica Bedi-trained Buck Dancing found success in the Ladies open maiden when recording a five-and-a-half-length victory for owner Mrs. Barker. Buck Dancing has been a consistent and genuine performer having recorded four wins and two seconds last term. Originally handled by Patrick Kelly in Ireland, the gelding won his only Irish points start by five lengths at Lisronagh back in 2013.

Former Irish pointer, Manitowoc County, got up by a head in the eight-runner conditions five-year-old and upwards race for handler Cherry Coward. The son of Darsi made his UK point-to-point debut back in January when he was pulled up before going onto be placed at Sheriff Hutton. The seven-year-old got off the mark at the third time of asking in Irish points for Denis Murphy and was subsequently sold for £30,000 in 2016.

The Jack Teal-trained Dynamite Kentucky made a winning debut in the second division of the open maiden by coming home in front of Rio des Echanault by one length. The son of Kentucky Dynamite was another former graduate handled by Wexford native Cormac Doyle, having had two unsuccessful runs in the spring in Irish points before making his UK point-to-point debut.

Alone No More recorded his first success on his debut in UK points for handler William Ramsey. Back in Ireland, the son of Goldwell started out his racing career with Colin Bowe. Getting off the mark at the tenth time of asking in the five-year-old geldings maiden at Taylorstown before being sold for £21,000.
