NEXT GEN: Timmy Love

Timmy Love is our latest novice rider to feature in our next generation section. The 17 year-old school student rode his first point-to-point winner last April on Damut I’m Out and followed this up with a win aboard the Heather Kiernan-trained Cubanera at Loughrea last week.

Name : Timmy Love
Age : 17
Town : Trim

How did you become involved in racing?

I grew up around horses and started off in the Meath pony club. My grandmother, Dot Love, trains and breaks horses in Mullingar. I started riding out there when I was about 12 or 13 so racing was always going to be part of my life.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

“Ride long, live long”

What's your favourite course?

Oldcastle

What's your favourite sport outside racing?

I play rugby for my school Kings Hospital.

Which is the best Irish city or town for a night out?

Dublin

Thistlecrack or Sizing John?

Thistlecrack

Give us a horse to watch out for?

Why Ask. He had one run in Durrow last spring to educate him and he looks a winner in waiting.

What was the best day of your racing life?

Riding my first winner in Oldcastle on Damut I’m Out for Ciaran Murphy in the spring although Dot training Liberty Counsel to win the Irish Grand National in 2013 isn’t far behind.

Who's your favourite horse?

Lucky Pat

What improvements would you make to point to pointing?

Offer more non-attractions to get bigger crowds, like what Dowth Hall are doing. I think they’re expecting around 7,000 people this weekend.

What is the strangest/funniest thing you have ever seen on a racecourse?

I’d say when an excited supporter ran down the track and got hit by a horse at Tipperary last year. I knew he was alright because he got up and kept celebrating.

If you could ride one horse this season?

Cracksman

Who is the last person you want to be upsides going to the last?

Derek O’Connor or Jamie Codd

Who’s your biggest influence?

My dad Michael

Ambitions For this season?

Stay injury free, make new contacts and ride as many winners as possible.
