It was a day to remember for Gearoid O’Loughlin who saddled his first winner under rules when landing the Rathronan Maiden Hunters Chase at Clonmel with Sidetracked.
The son of Beneficial received a patient ride from Barry O’Neill who raced in behind the leaders for most and took up the running after the second last and kept on well in the run-in the deny the Harry Kelly trained mare Kiera Royale by two and three parts of a length.
The six-year-old gelding who had two previous runs under rules has performed well since joining the point-to-point ranks having won on his debut at Lisronagh and was just beaten on his next outing at Kirkistown when finishing two lengths behind The Echo Boy.
O’Loughlin originally from County Clare, had previously been assistant to Andy Lynch is now the winning owners Chris Jones’ pre-training manager and is based in Meath.
