Kalanisi Star runs out an emphatic winner of Gowran bumper

Kalanisi Star upset the odds-on favourite Monbeg Park as he ran out a wide-margin winner of the Doc’s Point-to-Point bumper at Gowran on Saturday, a race which has been won by both Journey With Me and Bob Olinger in the last two years.

Following the defection of Arctic Bresil, who was taken out due to being lame, Monbeg Park, a Tattersalls winner was sent off as the odds-on favourite for Sean and Donnchadh Doyle, and Rob James elected to make the running on the Walk In The Park gelding.

However, have briefly been headed with a mile to race, it was inside the final quarter mile that Monbeg Park faced his biggest challenge when Johnny Barry sent Kalanisi Star to the front once again, and from there he proved much too good, running out a 16-length winner at the line.

Sam Curling, who had taken the earlier Tetretema Cup with Aloneamongmillions, had to settle for third in the finale with the maiden Not A Light.

The winning son of Kalanisi had joined the Oliver McKiernan stable after he was bought for £65,000 in December having won his four-year-old maiden at Corbeagh House earlier that month.
