Banbridge continued the good run of Irish Pointers on St Stephens Day when winning the Grade 1 Ladbrokes King George in the hands of Paul Townend.
Townend who settled his mount in rear came with his challenge approaching the straight and a better jump at the last sealed the pairs victory and when denying the longtime leader Il Est Francais by a length and three parts.
The Ronnie Bartlett owned gelding was running a big race in Cork the last day before blundering and unseating his rider at the final fence and leaving Energumene to come home in front.
This was the son of Doyen’s eleventh victory under rules. He started his career between the flags when placed on two occasions for his then handler Colin McKeever.
