Romeo Coolio won his first Grade 1 race when winning the Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown in the hands of Sam Ewing.

This son of Kayf Tara showed plenty of ability earlier this season when winning at Down Royal, he then came out and finished second behind Tounsivator in the Royal Bond Grade 1 hurdle at.  Fairyhouse.

He looked to have measure of his rivals from before the second last and kept on gamely for a comprehensive victory over Bleu De Vassy.

Romeo Coolio started his career with Donnchadh Doyle when winning his point-to-point maiden at Belclare.  He was subsequently purchased by Aidan O’Ryan and Gordon Elliott for £420,000 at the Cheltenham Festival Sale.

Winning trainer Gordon Elliott remarked afterwards: 'I'm delighted for the boys (KTDA Racing), they have been big supporters of Gordon Elliott and Cullentra Racing.  It's also great for Mouse O'Ryan who bought him.'

'We were obviously a little disappointed after the last day, but I just think he jneeds a fast gallop and he got that there today.'

'The plan i'd imagine will be the Supreme Novices at Cheltenham.'
