Champions Crowned | Flemensfirth champion for a third time

Flemensfirth is the Champion point-to-point sire for the third time in his career, as he is responsible for the winners of 20 races between the flags during the Covid-19 shortened season.

Having lost his 2018 crown for fellow Coolmore National Hunt stallion Getaway 12 months ago, a number of notable performances by his off-spring, particularly in the open division, has seen him regain that title.

Vincent Halley’s Arctic Skipper was his star performer, picking up three race victories during the campaign, beginning at Dromahane in November, before getting the better of the returning Cheltenham Festival hero Black Hercules at Boulta, and following up in the wet conditions of Tallow.

Space Cadet, who would end the season by winning the valuable Randox Ulster National at Downpatrick, added two victories early in the season, winning at Castletown-Geoghegan and then dead-heating with Fenno’s Storm at Moig South, whilst Stand Up And Fight, was another son of Flemensfirth to put in a notable performance when he won on his banks debut at Lingstown for Enda Bolger and JP McManus.

It was a season with winners across all age groups for the Beeches Stud resident, including in the four-year-old age group with Colin Bowe’s Red Lion Lad, on what proved to be the final day of the season at Ballyarthur, whilst
in the five-year-old geldings’ age group, Ashtown Lad, Beatthebullet and We Will Sort It all got their heads in front during the season.

A total of 20 winners saw him end the season with a very comfortable six victory margin over the chasing pack, with Getaway, Mahler and Scorpion all sharing the second position with 14 winners each.

This third Champion Sire title for Flemensfirth follows his previous successes in 2015 and 2018, becoming just the second horse to win three titles in the past two decades.
