Richie Deegan developed a very successful partnership with Aidan Fitzgerald, with the Carlow handler having provided him with his first winner at Oldcastle aboard Noble Witness in 2011, and he made a big breakthrough during the 2016/17 campaign with 13 winners, more than doubling his previous best season tally. The 2017/18 season saw him not only match those 13-winners, ride in his first Cheltenham Festival, but also record his biggest victory to date when teaming-up with Champion Trainer Willie Mullins' Tornado Flyer to win the Grade 1 Champion Bumper at the Punchestown Festival. In Spring 2021, Deegan made the switch to the professional ranks.
