Chris O'Donovan, the grandson of former trainer Jack O'Keeffe, is a graduate of the Duhallow Pony Club, and he rode his first winner at Dromahane in April 2014 aboard Optimus Prime, a horse both owned and trained by his sister Kate. The 2015/16 season saw O'Donovan crowned Champion Novice Rider, the same season in which he recorded his first track victory with Theatre Princess at Cork. A personal best tally of 25 winners in the 2022/23 season saw him earn a share of the southern title with John Barry.
