Brian Lawless began his career aboard family horses trained by his father Ger and owned by both Brian and his brother Seán. Delgany Star gave him his first ride at Borris House in December 2016, and by March 2017 it was Delgany Lass who gave him his first winner at Moira. A wide range of handlers have called upon his services since, including Matthew Flynn O'Connor, Donnchadh Doyle and John Nallen, and that helped him win a share of the Under-21 title with Ben Harvey, a title that was sealed with a second double of the season on what proved to be the final day of the season at Ballyragget in March  2020. Lawless' father runs Ballydonagh Stables, which among other things, has trained stunt riders for hit TV shows such as Into The Badlands and Vikings.
