Johnny Hurley got his riding career got off the mark at Knockanard in Febuary 2015 aboard the Jimmy Mangan-trained Gabrielleamee. The following season would prove to be his best to date when he rode a total of 11 winners, which led to him being awarded the Bill Twomey Memorial Trophy by the Cork & Waterford Injured Jockeys Committee. Hurley, whose sister Jane is a well-known photographer on the sourthern circuit working with the Healys Racing team, enjoyed his first track success with the 40/1 winner, Sanches, at Limerick on St. Stephen's Day in 2018.
